The College curriculum is designed to provide our students with a broad and balanced range of subjects whilst maintaining a focus on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The College’s specialism in Digital Media Technology is also strongly represented both in specialist subject lessons as well as through the support of learning in other subjects.
During Years 7, 8 and 9, in addition to the core subjects students study art, design, drama, geography, history, ICT, a modern foreign language, music, physical education and religious education. They will also follow a number of programmes to support the development of their economic and personal wellbeing.
Students are prepared for a range of appropriate public examinations during Years 10 and 11 with the core subjects being supplemented by a range of other subjects. The College also works with other local educational providers, principally Lewisham College, to offer a broader range of vocational courses.
The majority of our Year 11 students choose to remain at Bacon’s for their 6th form studies, preferring to continue working in an environment where they know their teachers and their teachers know them. They are joined by students from other schools who choose to join Bacon’s and benefit from the education provided. The College offers a broad range of A level and level 3 vocational courses all of which can lead to successful university entrance or on to employment with further training.
A considerable number of opportunities are provided for students to develop entrepreneurial skills throughout KS4 and KS5. These are supported by a number of major multinational companies such as Hogan Lovell LLP, Alan & Overy, LLP, Ernst & Young and the Royal Bank of Canada.
Bacon's College is committed to inspiring young learners in all facets of student life. By providing an extended and flexible curriculum we are able to support and promote development in any pupil who seeks to achieve excellence.
We are active in seeking out and creating exciting extracurricular activities and have a wide range of professional partners who work with our students in and out of school to broaden horizons and promote the development of skills. Currently this has included working with partners as diverse as NASA, the Royal Ballet and the Youth Sport Trust. We also aim to support the teaching of musical instruments and offer an annual organ scholarship. For those students who enjoy the challenge of academic study, we also offer additional GCSEs in subjects such as Astronomy and a number of Modern Foreign Languages.
