Parenting Groups

At the college we are very aware of the importance of parenting and the challenges of living with our teenage children.  We recognise there are times when their behaviour can be puzzling and can cause us anxiety and concern.  We aim within the counselling department to extend our support to parents through the following events;

'Walking With Adolescents' are a series of evening meetings for parents on the challenges of adolescence.  They are led by guest speakers, often psychotherapists, counsellors or other professionals who work with young people and their families.  We also run a follow up evening, the week after the talk, for parents who would like to continue thinking about and discussing further the topic and any questions that might have emerged from the previous evening.

2009/10 Events were 'Trials and Tribulations of bringing up an adolescent,' 'The Importance of Fathers' and 'Bereavement & Loss'

'Reflective Parenting Group' is a series of evenings once a week over a 6 week period where parents come together to discuss a puzzling situation with their adolescent.  The purpose of the evening is to discuss how the parent and the young person were feeling and situations that lead to the event rather than solutions.  Each parent takes turns in discussing their situation to the group.

These events are open to all parents, carers and extended family not just Bacon's students who have an interest in thinking and discussing with other parents their experience of living with teenagers.
