Controlled assessments are internal assessments which are part of the new GCSEs and replaces coursework. They are used for those aspects of a subject that cannot be assessed by an external examination.
A GCSE subject will either be 60% controlled assessment, 25% controlled assessment or no controlled assessment.
The controlled assessments can be held at any time throughout year 10 and 11 and will vary from subject to subject. They will be at set times and days and done under ‘exam conditions’. The tasks are internally assessed by teachers and then externally moderated.
It is important your child is in College for these assessments as they will be unable to take them at a later date and are part of their final grade.
